It Happened! Private Lands Partners Day 2024 – Redmond, Oregon

The Partnerscapes Blog by Steve Jester

After over 6 years of planning and delays (think pandemic) Private Lands Partners Day (PLPD) Oregon is in the books! Thanks to the work of the core planning team and conservationists of all perspectives from around Oregon, 200 attendees from 29 states gathered to hear people share just some of the stories of Oregon’s many multiple-perspective conservation partnerships.

As in most years, the event started with an opening reception, but this year the reception featured an Oregon Showcase. PLPD is always tied to a landscape, but this year our Oregon hosts wanted to make sure that attendees were able to get a flavor of the conservation collaborations that are ongoing across the state as well. This additional story sharing opportunity was certainly appreciated by attendees.

The field trip day revolved around water and aquatic systems and species. The work showcased on the field trip was incredible in both its scale and scope supporting both natural systems and human communities and needs. During the conference day, attendees heard from some partnership efforts outside Oregon, took a deeper dive into the development of the water focused partnerships, and also focused on some of the large-scale forest resilience work ongoing in Oregon. That work embraces an all lands, all hands approach including local, state, and federal government interests as well as Tribal nations and other private landowners. We were honored to have Belinda Brown of the Pit River Tribe both open and close the conference with words of blessing and remembrance. Some of our scheduled attendees were not able to attend due to the widespread damage of Hurricane Helene.

A full report on the event is being prepared and will be shared in our next newsletter. We are already planning PLPD 2025 – Williamsburg, Virginia where we will gather on October 7-9. Hope to see you there!
