Elevating Rancher Voices for Sustainable Grazing in California

The California Grazing Lands Coalition (CalGLC) was formed by the California Rangeland Conservation Coalition (CRCC) to elevate the rancher’s voice and to promote sound management of grazing lands as the foundation of the ranching industry and for all their benefits to the environment and society.

CalGLC is producer-led and producer-focused. The leadership takes a collaborative approach to grazing lands stewardship and the continued viability of ranching in the state by centering the voices of livestock producers in a dedicated coalition of community organizations, researchers, conservation districts, non-government organizations and representatives from state and federal resource management agencies.

Rancher Advisory Panel

CalGLC is grounded in the day-to-day grazing operations with an Advisory Panel made up of five California ranchers representing the geographic, livestock species, and cultural diversity of the ranching community.

CalGLC was launched in early 2024 when strategic priorities and pathways for success were outlined by the CRCC Board of Directors based on the current situation of ranching in CA. Since then, the Advisory Panel met to formulate a mission and vision for CalGLC, and to outline strategic activities and partnerships to focus on. The Panel oversees and participates in CalGLC workshops and virtual activities.

Mission

Bring the ranching community together with stewardship partners to focus on collaborative solutions to the urgent issues facing the ecosystem health and economic viability of managing California’s grazing lands.

Vision

Economically and ecologically sound grazing management is the norm throughout the State. Ranchers’ voices are included and valued in conversations on resource conservation, and a supported network of informational and technical assistance capacity exists for the livestock and land stewardship community.
